You may wonder...
What is a running vacation?
Wouldn’t it be great to combine your love for running with your love for travel, exploration and food? There are thousands of cycling and walking vacations around the world, but running vacations are usually limited to “running camps” (which are great for running, but not so great for “vacation”) or traveling for marathons (which means a day of running and five days of vacation/recovery). We wanted to create something new.
A running vacation is a unique way to see and explore a new part of the world.
Unlike a cycling or walking vacations no one expects you to run all-day for seven days straight. Instead we have mapped the best runs in the region which take you past the cool things that normal tourists never get to see.
This isn’t a race. It’s not even a staged race. You will have the ability to run at your own pace, but we’ve found many groups enjoy running together or at least stopping from time to time to experience the highlights of the run together.
Speaking of highlights, we break up the runs, so you are never just plowing through miles and miles without an end in sight. After an hour of running, you may come around the corner to an incredible farmer’s market and stop for a smoothie. Or maybe the run will take you to a breathtaking view – and your guide will magically appear with a picnic basket.
After your runs we have ensured there is always something fun to see or do. Maybe a wine tasting at the most famous vineyard in the Northwest. Maybe a high ropes course followed by a local micro-brewery tour. Every day is different.
But what is the same is we ensure incredible, unique runs combined with reservations at local chef-inspired restaurants.
While the vacation is designed around running, there is no reason to leave non-runners at home. We can transport the entire family. While you are out for your morning run, your non-running spouse might be hiking a nearby route, walking through a market, or even just sleeping in.
If your idea of a perfect vacation is lying around on a beach, a running vacation is NOT for you. But if you like the idea of combining fitness with savory food, exploration and adventure, then this might be the perfect vacation for you
How does it work?
- In the morning, your guide meets you and reviews the day – and then you start your run. If it’s point-to-point, we’ll get your bags transported to the next hotel.
- Depending on the run, your guide may be with you the whole time or part of the way. If just part of it, then you’ll be given some nifty, foolproof GPS units and maps.
- Along the way, there will be sites to see and snacks to experience. The goal isn’t “just to finish the run”; it’s to enjoy your surroundings while you’re out there. It’s like the famous quote: “Happiness is the journey, not the destination” … although we know you’ll love the destinations too.
- When you do reach the end of the run, your guide will be there. Sometimes you’ll be at your hotel already, sometimes you may be transported elsewhere … and, depending on the day, there may be a planned activity like a brewery tour or wine tasting, or you may have free time.
- In the evening, you’ll head to a scrumptious, hand-picked Northwest restaurant where a reserved table awaits you.
- And we do it again the next day, well-fed with big smiles on our faces and a few more miles under our belts!
